Colorado Coalition for Food, Land and People
Description:
Colorado Coalition for Food, Land and People's (CCFLP)
mission is to provide educational resources and promote approaches to
learning that help educators and students, PreK through adult, to better
understand the interrelationship s among agriculture, the environment
and people of the world.
Geographic area served:
CCFLP facilitators are located across Colorado and
therefore, the geographic area served is the state of Colorado. Workshops
will be held throughout Colorado to reach educators in urban, suburban
and rural communities.
Qualifications of organization/individuals to implement
this program successfully:
Colorado Coalition for Food, Land and People is a national non-profit
organization with successful programs in 27 states. The Colorado Coalition
for Food, Land and People is a standing committee of the Colorado Foundation
for Agriculture. We have facilitators located all over Colorado who are
willing to provide workshops on FLP so educators can learn about the interrelationships
among agriculture, the environment and people.
Food, Land and People's (FLP) Resources for Learning
is based on conceptual framework that serves as the skeletal structure
to hold together seven comprehensive ideas. The seven concepts about food,
land and people include awareness and appreciation, historical perspectives,
agricultural base, economics, images and attitudes, decisions, and the
future.
CCFLP workshops are theme-based, reflecting the FLP
Conceptual Framework. By grouping workshop activities by theme, participants
are better able to learn about, understand and remember the conceptual
framework. It is easier to relate to concepts in the FLP Resources
for Learning guide when participants learn through themes that weave
relationships among agriculture, the environment a nd people. The overlap
among themes enables us to see connections, not separations. FLP themes
include: Natural and Environment, Balance, Community, Diversity and Sustainability.
The FLP lessons and activities integrate the themes
into all aspects of the standard PreK through 12th grade curriculum. Each
activity guides the students through a process that begins with awareness,
moves the students toward understanding, enables them to challenge predetermined
ideas and motivates them to seek positive means for action. These activities
are intended for use in both classroom and non-formal settings. The materials
are designed to support state and national academic standards appropriate
for PreK through 12th grades. Educators may choose one or more FLP activities
to teach a concept or skill. The activities may be integrated into current
courses of study, or may stand alone as the basis for a specific course.
The activities will engage all learning styles and learners. Besides being
balanced, fair and objective, the lessons are concept-oriented and have
been extensively reviewed, tested and evaluated.
Our facilitators are professionals in various fields
of education, agriculture, cooperative extension, and other organizations
and have undergone a fifteen hour facilitator training. In addition to
their personal expertise from their profession, each workshop will incorporate
a information from the Ag in the Classroom and other agriculture and natural
resource businesses/organizations
